The history of Maslinovik watchtower
The watchtower (Maslinovik) is located on a hill on the north side of the Stari Grad Plain. It was built in the 4th century BC by the ancient Greek settlers as an observatory near Pharos (today’s Stari Grad). Together with a second watchtower Tor over Jelsa, it formed a defence system of the Greek colony of Pharos. Presently, only the lower segments are preserved.
Since 2008 the Stari Grad Plain has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with Stari Grad’s old town centre.
How our 3D model of Maslinovik watchtower was made
In March 2022 we went to Maslinovik to create a detailed 3D model of the ruins. We took hundreds of digital photographs from ground level and a drone, to capture every detail of the site. Then, we processed them with special software (Agisoft Metashape). The result is an interactive, photorealistic, photogrammetric model you can see below:

Our project was supported by the Agency for Stari Grad Plain Management.
